Job Description
We are currently hiring for a Building Operator to join our Facilities team in Ottawa. Our Facilities team create and maintain the buildings and natural environment at General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada campuses. Our expert staff monitor and manage building performance, coordinate capital, program and departmental projects, conduct scheduled maintenance, cleaning requests and respond to facilities related repairs and emergencies.
As part of our team, you will assist certified and licensed professionals with significant repairs and maintenance, and take ownership of inspections and corrective actions to ensure facilities operate smoothly. You will perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks independently, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing work. - Independently performs minor repairs and minor maintenance to Facilities and related systems including but not limited to basic electrical (installing switches, replacing receptacles etc.), mechanical, plumbing replacing sinks, toilets, faucets etc.) furniture/fixtures/equipment (FFE).
- Assists Certified and Licensed Team Members in performing significant repairs and maintenance to Facilities and related systems.
- Performs inspections of Facilities and related systems using checklists and logs, providing documentation of findings and independently taking action as required to correct any findings or advising management as required.
- Utilizing the work order system, completes assignments in a timely manner ensuring they are completed on a priority basis. Performs emergency repairs promptly and efficiently.
- Performs furniture/fixture/equipment (FFE) relocations and setups within and between Facilities.
- Maintains appropriate record and reports in a timely manner.
- Responds to routine on-demand service requests, emergency call-ins; assists other Facility employees; and performs other related duties, as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Equivalent to a Grade 12 level of education at an Ontario Secondary school
- Requires over 1 year of related experience.
- Ability to use a computer and mobile device for work order system, email and training. Basic skills with Microsoft Office Outlook and Excel.
- Demonstrated awareness of federal and provincial standards/codes related to maintenance and care of Facilities.
- Demonstrated interest in pursuing a trades certification or license, an asset.
- Valid provincial Drivers License.
Security
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
