SUMMARY
Coordinate overall test operations with Outfitting Production work. Perform on-going Test Planning, maintain computerized schedules, maintain systematic control of completed test paperwork and reports, oversees test material procurement, supervise shop area, conduct test LMS maintenance and be capable of performing as a Test Supervisor in various disciplines.


Reports directly to Manager, Test and Trials. The Senior Test and Trials Engineer is expected to maintain consistency across the contract-oriented testing groups by working with Test Management, Ship Management, Lead Planners and Production Planners. Methods and procedures will support internal departmental goals and support Test Management. The Manager, Test and Trials will act to resolve conflicts if and when they arise. Internal contact will be maintained with Ship Management, Labor Budgeting, Estimating Purchasing, Contracts, Engineering and Production supervision. External contact will be maintained with MSC, SUPSHIP, USCG and ABS as the contract might specify.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
  • Test Procedure maintenance and reporting.
  • Test coordination.
  • Test Planning/Scheduling.
  • LMS Reporting.
  • Oversees PMS on-board.
  • Hand on operation of systems and equipment.
  • Computer input and operation.
  • Coordinate liaison between QA and Government representatives in matters of testing.
  • Assigns work.
  • Performs other tasks as required or assigned by the Test Manager.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned.


  • SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates Degree in Marine Field (or equivalent training) and a minimum of ten (10) years experience as an Operating Marine Engineer.
  • Have proven experience in Marine Propulsion Systems, Centralized Controls System operation, Personnel Management, Quality Assurance, Planning, Diesel Generators and Electrical System operations, Shipboard Combat and Surveillance Systems operations.
  • Must be familiar with personal computers, have demonstrated experience in dealing with the Navy in the Total Ship Test Program as well as familiarity with ABS and USCG requirements.


  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    Must be able to climb on and around ships, including stairs, ladders, masts, and scaffolding. Must be able to work around moving machinery, at heights and in confining or restricted spaces aboard vessels under construction/repair. Must be able to handle stressful situations. Physical dexterity must allow for bending and reaching. Requires extended periods of standing and walking (8 hr/day). Specific vision ability required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift weights up to 50 pounds. Must have good eye/hand coordination. Must be physically able to commute to various areas in shipyard. Must endure noise levels from moderate to extremely noisy. (75%)


    ACCOUNTABILITY
  • Responsible to the Test Manager for the timely and accurate conduct of assigned responsibility and for the timely notification of impending problems.
  • Responsible for the submittal of accurate and timely test documentation to the Customer.
    Improve customer perceptions of the test documentation and reporting system.

  • $121,400 - $162,800


    This pay range is a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
